Hello and welcome to my auction!
Here we have a stunning NOS deadstock Iolani Made in Hawaii crepe rayon Hawaiian shirt in size medium.
Perhaps it may remind you of the shirt Brad Pitt wore over his Champion T-Shirt in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood?
When I bought this shirt many years ago, I knew it was new, although it had been unpinned.
But the folds and creases showed that the fabric was new and had never been washed.
All I did was iron it for the pictures.
All told, over many years, the shirt had had a life before I received it.
There are just a few minor brown stains. And only one is really visible. It’s 1/8” round circle on the upper right shoulder. You can see it in the center of one of the photos and the size in relation to the size of the shirt. There other 5 are literally no larger than a pinhead.
I am all about full disclosure.
That is the only issue with this incredible shirt.
And I’m sure a talented dry cleaner can spot clean these.

That being said, what we have here is a very rare 1950’s/60’s Hawaiian silkie with a very vibrant Japanese abstract print in shades of gold, yellow, blues, greens, and reds. The background is primarily made up of a field of white and yellow and gold swirling curlicues. Over that, there are scenes from traditional print makers such as Hasui and other Japanese artists of the past centuries.
Around those vignettes, there are 4 repeating scenic motifs.
A traditional house with mountains in the distance.
Another traditional house during the cherry blossom season with mountains in the distance.
A stylized version of Mt. Fuji.
Boats on the ocean with an ancient village on the rocky cliffs.
Other objects are floating and surrounding these scenes. Lanterns, sake barrels, and other traditional thingies.
The shirt features a spread collar with neck loop, coconut husk buttons, one matched left chest pocket, and 2 double pleats on the back.
This is a generous medium since it has never been washed.

I purchase boxes and shipping materials and charge the buyer for them at
cost. This does not show up in the Ebay shipping calculator. Neither does the insurance cost. So do not bid if you have a problem with it costing more that what is listed. I always find the best and cheapest shipper depending on the destination and size of the boxes. I have used FedEx, USPS and UPS. They are have their strengths and weaknesses.
