LIONEL 1588 - 1588T CLOCKWORK ENGINE & TENDER / MOTOR

Description

I have for sale a Lionel 1588 clockwork engine with a 1588T tender. As you may know, these clockwork pieces are usually had to find and seem to hold their value to those collectors interested in this segment.
These items were in poor condition and I blasted the engine and tender shells and repainted them. New plates were applied to both engine and tender. The motor was disassembled and the bright parts tumble polished to a high shine.
I replaced the "clutch spring" and "clutch hub" that are the parts that usually fail and result in a motor that will not wind (see pictures of spring). I wind these springs on a clock spring winder tool, and have left the tie-wrap on it for final assembly.
There are two issues that need to be addressed with this motor. First, I made a whistle actuator lever and while the is the correct shape, the metal I used is too thin and it does not work. It should serve as a good pattern for you to make one in heavier gauge metal (I may have those specs).
Also, the front, left drive wheel that engages the whistle intermediate gear is not on the axle square and it binds a little in part of the rotation. I got it working OK but believe it needs some more tinkering. The whistle gear and impeller are original and in good condition.
I am clearing out all of my trains and parts, and selling this one as is. No time to finish it, so offering at what I believe is an attractive price for someone who like to tinker with this stuff. Also, I have extra clutch springs and hubs for sale (see my auctions).
